Heavenly

Rachel Rodman

Meteor-- a celestial visitor. It screams through the sky: ever smaller as its edges burn.

(But to us: ever larger.) In the impact, we are slurred-united-refracted-smeared:

red blood, yellow hemolymph, green chlorophyll, blue anthocyanins; asymmetrical fragments of extraterrestrial rock, glowing in indigo and violet; a slaughter of wildflowers; a meter² of macerated meadow grass; a butchery of butterflies; me–

Rainbow.

Rachel is the author of three collections: Mutants+Hybrids, Art is Fleeting, and Exotic Meats+Inedible Objects.
